The history of Plaisir de Merle’s vineyard goes back to 1688 when a French emigrant settled on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountains, between Paarl and Franschhoek. In 1975 the farm was sold to Stellenbosch Farmer’s Winery after been owned by the family for almost 300 years. Stellenbosch Farmer’s Winery (now Distell) continued the production and development the quality above everything else. Together with the area’s soil and the grape quality is aiming to make the South Africa’s best wines.
Plaisir de Merle is a rare gem. The 2012 harvest brought us an aromatic, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, with nuances of fine spices, fresh mint and balsamic notes. The expansion in barrels has contributed with notes of cedar, coconut and creamy cocoa. Powerfully concentrated, yet elegant, with supple, soft tannins. A great wine which needs to mature in a cool cellar until 2020
